11/27/2008 - Melbourne, Australia (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - Tim Clark and Scott Hend shot rounds of five-under 67 and shared a two-shot lead Thursday when the Australian Masters was suspended.
An afternoon lightning storm delayed play for nearly three hours, pushing the first round back far enough that it could not be completed before darkness fell.
It will resume Friday morning with 48 players returning to the course to complete their first 18 holes.
Hend had already taken the clubhouse lead before the round was first halted, while Clark retired to safety as the hail storm approached, having only completed 13 holes.
Clark, who was two shots back at the beginning of the lengthy weather delay, returned to make back-to-back birdies at the 15th and 16th holes to join Hend in a share of the lead.
He benefited from better scoring conditions.
"Obviously the wind was a lot calmer and from a different direction and the greens had softened up, so it was a totally different course," said Clark. "It was tough this morning with the wind, but I was happy with how I was playing this morning, too, so overall I'll take that score."
Clark and Hend enjoyed a two-stroke lead over Anthony Brown, Daniel Wardrop and Michael Wright, who all posted three-under 69s. Chris Downes will have the best shot at catching the leaders when he returns to the course at three-under par through 13 holes.
Daniel Chopra, Simon Griffiths, Ewan Porter, Peter Senior, Vernon Sexton-Finck and Paul Sheehan all finished with two-under 70s to sit three strokes off the lead. Two other players were minus-two on the course.
Further down the leaderboard, Stuart Appleby (74) and John Daly (76) were among the players to who finished their rounds before the initial weather stoppage.
Daly, coming off a final-round 62 and a 17th-place finish in Hong Kong on Sunday, is in Australia for two consecutive tournaments.
Hend grabbed the lead with a round that included six birdies against just one bogey. The 35-year-old native Australian was lucky enough to get out on the course early.
Avoiding the really bad weather, Hend nevertheless had to cope with a strong wind.
"My target was to be as aggressive as possible downwind, and then just try and make a par into the wind," said Hend. "It was just aggressive, then defensive, back and forward."
Playing in the seventh morning group off Huntingdale Golf Club's first tee, Hend opened his round with a birdie. His lone bogey came at No. 4, while back- to-back birdies at the seventh and eighth as well as the 10th and 11th moved him up the leaderboard.
Hend finished the off the round with a closing birdie at the 18th, earning himself his best score since he strained elbow ligaments in August.
"I'm never surprised when I play good, I'm disappointed when I play bad," said Hend. "Self-belief and confidence, that's all it is with a golfer."
Clark's round included two eagles and a birdie on his first 10 holes. But he got moving in the wrong direction with two bogeys in a three-hole stretch just before the weather suspension.
Luckily for him, he was able to right the ship when play resumed. And he was beaming afterwards about his early eagles.
"I had two eagles all year on the U.S. Tour, so that was quite a shock for me, but downwind they were reachable and that was where you had to make your score up on a day like this," said Clark.

MySportsbook.com: NBA Championship Odds
With the playoffs about two months away, the top two teams in the Western Conference are the clear cut leaders to win the NBA Championship. The Dallas Mavericks have the best record in the NBA (44-9) and have been absolutely scorching since the second week of the season. What makes the Mavs’ record more impressive is the fact that they dropped their first four games of the season. Currently they have won 17 out of their last 18 and are MySportsbook.com’s favorite (2-1) to win it all. Right behind the Mavs are the Pacific leading Phoenix Suns (39-13). Last season, the Suns lost in the Conference Finals to non-other then the Mavericks four games to two. Of course the Suns were without center Amare Stoudemire who has is averaging 19.9 PPG and 9.5 RPG since coming back from his knee injury. Unlike the Mavs, the Suns have struggled a bit lately having lost their last three and four out of their last seven. Of course the main reason for their three straight loses is due to the absence of two time MVP Steve Nash, who is out with a shoulder injury. Heads-up, the Mavs have beaten the Suns in both of their meetings this season.
In the Eastern Conference, the Pistons (32-19) are the favorites to win it all at 6-1. The addition of Chris Webber seems to have been a good move for the Pistons. Since coming over from the 76ers, Webber has averaged 13.1 PPG and 7.3 RPG and the Pistons are 11-4. Even though the defending champion Heat are currently on the playoff making cusp, they are the Eastern Conference team that is getting the most action to win it all (9-1). The fact that Shaquille O’Neal is back in the starting lineup after missing 39 games probably has something to do with this. No doubt, Shaq makes a difference when in the lineup as their winning six out of their last seven would indicate.

Kurt Warner to start, Matt Leinart to watch
Despite the debate that's swirling , Kurt Warner will remain the starting quarterback for the Arizona Cardinals, coach Dennis Green said today. The Arizona Cardinals are the +7 point underdog at online sportsbook MySportsbook.com for this Sunday's game.
Green's comment came in a statement released by the team following an ESPN report that Green decided that rookie Matt Leinart would replace Warner as starter for Sunday's game at Atlanta.
"Generally talking about the starting lineup is not something we do," Green told the AP. "However, given the speculation that was out there we want to make it clear. We're disappointed after last week, but we still expect to be a playoff football team and we fully expect Kurt Warner to be the quarterback that leads us. That has not changed."
