11/29/2008 - (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - The Ottawa Senators will attempt to win three straight games for the first time this season when they visit the New York Islanders for tonight's battle at Nassau Coliseum.
The Senators ended a six-game losing streak last Saturday against the New York Rangers and weren't in action again until posting a shootout decision over Toronto on Thursday.
Both victories came at home as Ottawa won back-to-back outings for the first time since defeating Washington and Philadelphia on November 4 and 6.
On Thursday, Jason Spezza scored the winner in the shootout as the Senators downed the Maple Leafs, 2-1, at Scotiabank Place.
Spezza was the first shooter and he banged his wrister off the right post and into the net. After Alex Auld made saves on Nikolai Kulemin and Lee Stempniak, Daniel Alfredsson sealed the win as his wrist shot beat Vesa Toskala.
Mike Fisher scored the lone goal while Auld finished the game with 25 saves for the Senators. Fisher made his return after a knee injury sidelined him for the previous two games.
Ottawa has been awful as the road team recently, dropping five straight as the visitor. The Sens are just 3-4-2 away from home this season.
The Islanders have lost their last two games and were outscored by a combined margin of 12-5 in those setbacks.
New York was handed a 5-3 loss Wednesday against visiting Pittsburgh and was then blasted, 7-2, in Friday's afternoon game in Boston. Blake Wheeler and David Krejci scored 10 seconds apart to jump-start a five-goal third period for the triumphant Bruins.
Nate Thompson and Richard Park scored for the Islanders, who have surrendered nine goals in the third period the last two games. The Isles now have a third-period goal differential of minus-18 this season.
Joey MacDonald made his 13th straight start in net for New York, but was pulled after yielding four goals on 31 shots. Peter Mannino fared no better, allowing three goals on just eight shots.
The Islanders are just 4-7-1 as the host team this year, but had won two straight at the Coliseum before Wednesday's loss to the Penguins.
New York is 2-0 against the Senators this year, posting a win at home and on the road. However, Ottawa has still won 10 of 14 in the series and five of its last seven on Long Island.

New York, NY – October 3, 2007 – The dress rehearsal is over! The NHL preseason has ended and now that fans have had a glimpse of what is to come it is time to hit the book! Stanley Cup odds are live at MySportsbook.com, the world’s largest online sportsbook and casino.
The Ottawa Senators and Detroit Red Wings remain on top of the odds charts after an impressive start in the preseason. Betting lines opened for both teams at 6-1 in June. Since then the Sens have fallen to 7-1 and the Red Wings are now caught in a pack including the defending champion Carolina Hurricanes, the San Jose Sharks and the Anaheim Ducks, all at 10-1.
MySportsbook.com has also posted props on each team’s point total for the regular season. The Senators lead the charge at 108.5 followed by the Ducks at 106.5. Detroit will attempt a repeat for the prize as the Red Wings are deadlocked with the Predators at 104.5 a piece. The temporary loss of highly touted rookie Evgeni Malkin puts a lot of pressure on the stick of assistant captain Sidney Crosby - his lowly Pittsburgh Penguins are listed at 71.5.
Even if bettors are not brave enough to put their money on the underdog, an early bet on the favorites at sportsbook.com tends to produce bigger payouts than a mid-season wager. Placing a $1,000 bet last summer on the Detroit Red Wings or Ottawa Senators would have paid out to $8,000 and $10,000 respectively, opposed to a $2,500 or $3,000 payout at the beginning of the playoffs.

Academy Award Betting Odds for Best Picture Offer Great Value
If there is any category that is not an obvious win for any one nominee in this year's Academy Awards, it would be for Best Picture. Sure the Departed is a 5/7 favorite, but that's hardly anything when we look at Helen Mirren and her "out-of-reach" 1 to 40 odds (which means you would win a whopping $1 for every $40 bet).
For value, take a look at MySportsbook.com Oscars betting odds on my personal favorite, The Queen - a remarkable 12 to 1 long shot. The film hasn't won any pre-awards for Best Picture (compared to The Departed and Little Miss Sunshine), but there is a tremendous following and it is a strong enough film to warrant a surprise win.
TV Guide advises Oscar watchers should be cautioned not to discount the drama "Babel" with its strong social themes about overcoming communication gaps among people of different cultures.
"While 'Babel' lost several guild awards to 'Sunshine' and 'Departed,' it still enjoys loyal support, and historically Oscar voters favor dramas with social messages over comedies like 'Sunshine' and violent crime movies like 'Departed'."
"It hasn't done well in the guilds, which means there isn't much industry support," said Tom O'Neil of awards site TheEnvelope.com, "But several critics are expecting it to win, and that gets my attention." Babel had 7 to 2 odds at press time.
Who is to say independently produced Little Miss Sunshine won't be this year's Crash. Last year, Crash won for Best Motion Picture, shocking those who bet on gay cowboy flick, Brokeback Mountain, as the favorite to win.
