03/04/2007 - Hallandale Beach, FL (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - Scat Daddy, ridden by John Velazquez, made a late rush down the stretch to catch Stormello and win by a nose Saturday's $350,000 Fountain of Youth Stakes at Gulfstream Park. The win by Scat Daddy gave trainer Todd Pletcher a sweep of the afternoon's stakes races for three-year-olds.
Earlier on the program King of the Roxy captured the $150,000 Hutcheson Stakes. King of the Roxy won the 7 1/2 furlong sprint in 1:28. Ridden by Edgar Prado, King of the Roxy defeated Bold Start by 2 1/4 lengths Out of Gwedda finished third in the nine horse field.
Pletcher has now won five straight Hutcheson Stakes and adds an exciting result from the Fountain of Youth.
Stormello quickly took the lead in the 1 1/8 mile Fountain of Youth Stakes. Running second was Swale Stakes winner Adore the Gold with Hal's My Hope and the favorite Nobiz Like Shobiz alternating for third and fourth.
Jockey Kent Desormeaux kept Stormello on the lead into the final turn as Adore the Gold and Nobiz Like Shobiz loomed from the outside. Nobiz Like Shobiz had been on the outside through much of the race.
Nobiz Like Shobiz began to tire coming out of the turn for home and appeared to struggle. Stormello and Adore the Gold dueled through mid-stretch.
Scat Daddy made a furious drive down the stretch to catch Stormello at the wire. Nobiz Like Shobiz rallied enough to finish third in the nine horse field.
Rounding out the finish was Adore the Gold, Hal's My Hope, Drums of Thunder, Meritocracy, Divine Master and Johannesburg Star.
The time for the Fountain of Youth was 1:49.11.
Both the Fountain of Youth and Hutcheson Stakes are historically prep races for the $1 million Florida Derby. This year the Florida Derby is March 31.
Owned by James Scatuorchio and Michael Tabor, Scat Daddy adds $210,000 to his bankroll which now totals more than $734,000. The colt has won four of seven career starts all with Velazquez in the saddle.
"I couldn't have planned it better," Velazquez said. "I wanted to get into good position early and follow Cornelio (jockey Velasquez on Nobiz Like Shobiz) to the head of the lane and run him down. He (Scat Daddy) was running hard through the stretch. He was coming little by little and he got there."
Scat Daddy closed 2006 with a fourth place finish in the Breeders' Cup Juvenile. He opened this year with a third place finish behind Nobiz Like Showbiz in the Holy Bull Stakes at Gulfstream.
Scat Daddy returned $13.80, $6.20 and $2.80. Stormello paid $6.20 and $3.00, Nobiz Like Shobiz paid $2.10 for show.
Pletcher also recorded a win in the $225,000 Richter Scale Breeders Cup Sprint Championship at Gulfstream on Saturday with Half Ours.

MySportsbook.com favors Bears, Bengals, Chargers and Colts to remain perfect
LAS VEGAS , Sept. 28 - Two big match-ups of undefeated teams have fans salivating at the Week Four schedule in the NFL. The Chicago Bears stifling defense looks to provide a less than hospitable welcome to the Seattle Seahawks on Sunday night in a battle of two 3-0 teams in the NFC conference. In the AFC, the San Diego Chargers (2-0) head to Maryland to face the surprising Baltimore Ravens (3-0) as both try to keep pace atop the conference standings. Betting Lines makers at MySportsbook.com, online sportsbook and casino, have set the Bears as 3.5 point favorites while the Chargers are a 2.5 point bet.
Of the three remaining undefeated teams, only one, New Orleans, enters this week's game as an underdog. Despite an emotional and resounding win over Atlanta on Monday night, the Saints are a 7.5 point underdog against the struggling Carolina Panthers. Indianapolis looks to stay perfect when they face the New York Jets as a 9 point road favorite while the Cincinnati Bengals are a 6 point favorite at home to the New England Patriots.
Six teams enter the week still looking for their first win, with a seventh, Tampa Bay, on a bye week. The prospect of dropping another game would not bode well for a potential playoff run. Since 1990, just three teams -- the 1992 Chargers, 1995 Detroit Lions and 1998 Buffalo Bills -- have overcome losing their first three games of the season to earn a postseason berth. And only the Chargers managed to accomplish the feat after starting 0-4.
